Care guide

Qiviut is a delicate fibre that rewards a little care. Here is everything we would tell you in person.

Washing

  1. Wash only when needed. Airing is usually enough.
  2. Use cold water and a very mild soap or a dedicated wool wash.
  3. Let the piece soak. Do not rub, wring or twist it.
  4. Rinse in water of the same temperature.

Drying

  1. Lift the piece out supporting its whole weight.
  2. Roll it in a towel and press. Do not twist.
  3. Dry flat, in shape, away from radiators and direct sun.
  4. Never tumble dry. Never hang a wet piece.

Storage

  • Fold, do not hang.
  • Keep in a drawer or a breathable bag, not sealed plastic.
  • Use cedar or lavender against moths, and check stored pieces in spring.

Repairs

A pulled loop can usually be eased back into the row. If a piece needs more than that, write to us before attempting a repair.

For anything you are unsure of, use a specialist cleaner and tell them the fibre is qiviut.
